No, you are not dreaming! The Challenge gaming Network will host a brand new global QuakeWorld competition: Challenge Smackdown.
Why QuakeWorld (QW)? OK, the reason is quite simple: although it has been around for quite a while (in gaming terms), QW is still the best platform for deathmatch teamplay. And just because of this age, the skill exhibited by the QW players and teams of today is nothing short of amazing.
The Smackdown league will determine which is the best QW clan in the world, starting of with 4 divisions very soon:
- Division North Europe (CHSD-EU N)
- Division South Europe (CHSD-EU S)
- Division Australia (CHSD-AU)
- Division North America (CHSD-NA)
Over time, other regions may want to join the Smackdown league, which will be facilitated by the precense of local Challenge sites all over the globe.
Each division will receive coverage on the regional Challenge site, with a global overview of the leagues proceedings available at Challenge-Smackdown HQ.
Clans participating can try for the regional title in their Smackdown division and although this is still speculative, setting up a global final for all champion teams is being seriously considerd.
The league system (maps, proxys, etc) will be closely based on the legendary Villains league, with the main tweak being a wider variety of map selection. The Qizmo proxy has been adopted by the league as it's official proxy for safety- and conveniance-issues.
Registration will be open next week and more details will be available on the
Smackdown page, so check your local Challenge site or follow the news at Challenge-World.
