We celebrated the 5th birthday of Quake in february for the first time (quake test released on february 24th) already and today it celebrates yet another birthday. Exactly five years ago on the 22nd of june 1996 the Quake shareware version was released. So happy birthday to Quake, thanks to the people who made it and lots of fun to everyone still playing it. Later this year in december we will celebrate its fifth birthday for the third time because of the first QuakeWorld version's release :-)
Methos wrote a very good article on the history of Quake during the past five years on his site, Methos Quake. It is a must read featuring not only lots of otherwise very hard to find info but also some really interesting interviews with Jon Romero and Tim Willits, two of the most important people behind the Quake game design.
